Hoyt Bows Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where are Hoyt bows made?

Hoyt bows are manufactured in the United States, with the company's headquarters and primary manufacturing facility located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Established in 1931, Hoyt has a long-standing reputation for producing high-quality recurve and compound bows. Their 150,000-square-foot facility is dedicated to crafting bows that meet the rigorous demands of both competitive archers and bowhunters.

4. How long does it take to backorder or custom order a Compound Bow from Hoyt?

Typically backorder and custom order lead times are 6-8 weeks. However, please keep in mind delays outside of our control may have an impact on overall lead times (such as unexpected manufacturing and shipping delays etc.)

5. What bow sights are compatible with the In-line Picatinny mounting system?

Several companies offer bow sights or sight adapters compatible with Hoyt’s In-line Picatinny mounting system, including T.R.U. Ball/Axcel, Garmin, HHA Sports, Black Gold, Custom Bow Equipment (CBE), Fuse Archery, Option Archery, Dialed Archery, Spot Hogg, and UltraView Archery.

6. How do I find the serial number on my bow?

The serial number location on your Hoyt bow can vary depending on the model and year, as Hoyt began adding serial numbers in 2002. There are five possible locations to check. Position 1 is in the recessed area above the grip on the thumb side. Position 2 is underneath the cable rod, between the grip and sight mounting holes. Position 3 is on the cable side of the riser, between the sight mounting holes—commonly found on Carbon models. Position 4 is underneath the grip, typically seen on PowerMax and Charger bows. Position 5 is located between the limbs in the upper limb pocket. For visual guidance, visit the serial number section on Hoyt.com.

7. How often should I lubricate my wheels/cams?

Light spot lubrication of the axles—where they pass through the wheel or cam—should be performed regularly, roughly every 1,500 to 2,000 shots. In harsh hunting environments with exposure to dirt, dust, or moisture, daily lubrication may be necessary. Hoyt recommends using a silicone or Teflon-based lubricant, or another high-quality grease available at your local Hoyt Pro Shop. Avoid using penetrating oils like WD-40, EZ #7, or Fast Break, as they are not suitable for this purpose. Note: Hoyt bows with the Cam & 1/2 System use sealed stainless steel ball bearings, which do not require lubrication.

8. How often should I wax my bow strings?

Hoyt recommends regularly applying a light coat of high-quality bowstring wax to your bow’s strings and cables, ideally once every two weeks during periods of frequent use. For best results, use a premium wax available from your local Hoyt Pro Shop.

9. How often should I replace my strings and cables?

Hoyt recommends replacing your bow’s strings and cables every two years under normal use, or sooner if any signs of wear become apparent.

10. How far can I back my limb bolts out and how many pounds of draw weight do I lose with each turn?

On most Hoyt bows, you can safely turn out the limb bolts up to a maximum of eight full turns, while the Hoyt Ignite model allows for up to ten turns. The amount of draw weight reduced per turn can vary between models and individual bows, so the only accurate way to determine the weight loss is by using a bow scale.
