To zero a thermal clip on, first securely mount it onto your day scope and ensure both devices are properly aligned. Then, at a known distance (usually 50 or 100 meters), aim at a precise target and adjust the thermal clip on’s windage and elevation turrets until the thermal reticle aligns perfectly with the bullet impact point. Repeat as needed to ensure accuracy, and remember that many clip ons maintain zero when removed and reattached if properly calibrated.

Clip on thermal scopes can be very useful, but they’re not perfect because they let you convert a normal daytime optic into a thermal system without changing your rifle setup, which is convenient and cost effective compared to buying a dedicated thermal scope. But, in practice they often have downsides such as more complex setup, and slightly lower image quality than dedicated thermals due to stacking optics.
