MOA (Minute of Angle) and MRAD (Milliradian) are ways to measure angles, similar to how inches and centimetres measure length. In shooting, MOA is often linked to accuracy at distance—1 MOA equals roughly 1 inch of movement on a target at 100 yards. MRAD works the same way but uses a different scale, with adjustments typically made in 0.1 increments. Both are used to help you fine-tune your scope and hit your target more precisely.
First Focal Plane (FFP) and Second Focal Plane (SFP) refer to where the reticle sits inside a rifle scope. In a First Focal Plane scope, the reticle changes size along with the image as you zoom in or out—so the scale between the reticle and the target stays consistent at any magnification. In a Second Focal Plane scope, the reticle stays the same size no matter how much you zoom, while the image gets bigger or smaller. This means the reticle only shows accurate measurements at one specific zoom level, usually full magnification.
